Since the mid-1990s, Luzia Simons has been revisiting the classic genre of floral still life by combining it with a contemporary technique: the scannogram, a process in which flowers are placed on a scanner to be captured with breathtaking precision. This method, which she perfected in 1996 with the ‘Stockage’ series, places her work in the tradition of Flemish still lifes, particularly those dedicated to tulips, a bulb that was highly prized in the 17th century after its introduction to Europe.
